MADE IN THE NOW
This morning I designed today’s t-shirt for Made in the Now. Made in the Now is a tee shirt company that produces a new shirt everyday, based on a breaking news story. It was extremely challenging having to design and upload a print-ready tee in a couple of hours, especially with the design having to be based on a pretty obscure news article. In the end I found being forced to think on my feet and embrace the limitations of the project a very rewarding experience. If you like the shirt you still have about 23-hours to get your hands on it. Below is my rationale for the design;
“Keeping in mind the advice from MITN ‘would my mates buy this shirt?’, I felt it important that this design is only inspired by, and not a visual retelling of the news article. I wanted my shirt to work on its own as a design open for interpretation, but gain a deeper meaning when placed in context of the news story.
I chose this quote by T. S. Eliot because I think there’s something both sad and romantic about this story when you think about the two people who the instruments once belonged to. While they have been gone for over 45,000 years it’s comforting to know that during their time they enjoyed the same things as we do now. It’s amazing the bridges music can build.”
BRANDING: INSIDE OUT
Here’s a quick invitation I put together for the upcoming AgIdeas Studio Access night we are hosting at FutureBrand Melbourne.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to design my second studio Christmas card for FutureBrand Australia. Keeping with the theme of the 2010 card, the front features some of the most talked about topics of 2011.
Here’s a poster I designed for a 50’s American diner themed party FutureBrand Melbourne hosted late year. The title ‘5 Dollar Shake’, is a reference to the Jack Rabbit Slims scene in Pulp Fiction.
